SearchStax allows you to permanently upgrade your Solr deployment for more memory and greater disk space. Self-service (silver) clients can perform this procedure on their own. Premium (gold, platinum, platinum-plus) clients should ask SearchStax Support for assistance so we can adjust your annual billing.
The procedure on this page is also appropriate to clients who want to make a minor-version Solr upgrade (such as 8.1.1 to 8.2). Note that a major-version Solr upgrade (7.x to 8.x) needs a different procedure.
This procedure takes advantage of the SearchStax backup feature.
Best Practice: A/B Path for Simple Deployment Upgrades
To upgrade to a bigger deployment, or to make a minor-version Solr upgrade, the best practice is to:
- Perform a manual backup of your existing system (deployment A).
- Create a new deployment using the desired plan and version of Solr. You must use the same cloud provider as before.
- Restore the backup into deployment B.
- Validate the behavior of deployment B.
- Switch over from A to B.
- Delete deployment A.
The backup feature automatically adjusts for changes in the number of cluster nodes.
You will be billed for the number of days that each deployment was active during the month. Running two deployments side-by-side during the transition period results in a small increase in your monthly bill.
