Access to the Path is Denied

While upgrading the SearchStax Site Search service Sitecore Module, a client reported this error:

ERROR Installation failed: System.Exception: Background process failed: Access to the path is denied. ---> System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path is denied.

This issue can sometimes occur when the Sitecore AppPool doesn’t have proper permissions. Make sure that the AppPool has write/admin access to the Sitecore root directory.
