Solr Version Lifecycle Policy FAQs

Do Customers have to upgrade immediately when a version hits community EOL?

No. You have up to 24 months in Maintenance Support where SearchStax continues to provide platform support.

What happens if I don’t upgrade before Maintenance Support ends?

You’ll need to perform an upgrade or purchase Extended Life Support. Deployments which are running beyond the Maintenance Support phase without a purchase of Extended Life will be decommissioned.

Will SearchStax automatically upgrade my deployment?

Breaking changes exist across major versions of Solr, therefore SearchStax doesn’t perform automatic upgrades and customers should plan to re-index their data when an upgrade does occur.

Customers are encouraged to perform Self-Managed upgrades to allow for proper testing and validation. If you’re interested in a SearchStax Managed Upgrade service, contact your account manager for pricing details.

For more details on how to perform a Self-Managed upgrade, refer to SearchStax Solr Upgrades.

What does critical and high priority bug fixes mean?

During Extended Life Support, only critical and high priority bug fixes are guaranteed. These are bugs which prevent users from performing the core control plane actions via SearchStax dashboard or management APIs.

Are security patches guaranteed in all phases?

Yes. Security patches follow the standard process during Extended Life support as well.

Can we run Solr on a minor version which is EOL within a Major version which is not yet EOL?

Yes. If a Major version is still in the Full Support phase or Maintenance Support phase, then customers can continue a minor version which is not the latest stable version.

If a critical issue is found within a minor version which is not the latest stable version, SearchStax reserves the right to upgrade your Deployment to the newest minor version within the Major version you are running on the Deployment.
