A reference list of SearchStax cloud providers, regions, and Solr deployment plans is available here.

Deployment Plans

SearchStax Dedicated plans offer the ability to run Apache Solr on dedicated virtual machines. With these plans, all resources available to the virtual machine (CPU, RAM, Disk, IO) are exclusively yours. These plans also include full administrative access to the deployment running Apache Solr.

Dedicated plans are good for:

The SearchStax dashboard lets you create two types of deployments:

These two types of deployments may be paired with any of four support plans (see below).

SearchStax Plan Tiers

SearchStax offers Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Plus feature and support tiers.

Different customers and applications have varying requirements for features, availability, reliability, scalability and security. These tiers let customers select the right level of support for their application.

Please see our Support User Guide for our customer-support policies.

SearchStax Admin and Support Users

SearchStax Admin and Support users have access to your SearchStax account and dashboard. In addition, they have the ability to create support tickets. The number of users with access depends on your Support Tier.

Support Coverage

SearchStax support is available at times depending on geographic location and on the terms of your Support License Agreement. See the table in our Support User Guide.

Availability Reporting

Clients who select Gold, Platinum or Platinum Plus levels of support get access to an Availability Report in the SearchStax dashboard. This is a graph and a summary that documents response time and downtime so they can be compared with the guarantees of the SLA. Screenshot

Disaster Recovery

For Platinum Plus clients, SearchStax can maintain a "hot standby" deployment for disaster recovery. If something happens to your production environment, the system automatically goes into disaster-recovery mode. The system will automatically transition all live traffic to the disaster-recovery deployment to limit any disruption to your business. In parallel, the support team will begin triaging the production deployment.

SearchStax Cloud Private

Premium clients may deploy to a private cloud environment in either AWS or Azure utilizing a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) or Virtual Private Network (VPN).

A SearchStax Cloud Private is a dedicated, software-defined network into which you can provision multiple SearchStax-hosted Apache Solr deployments. Using SearchStax Cloud Private allows you to limit communication between your application and your search engine via virtual private peering.

When you provision a SearchStax Cloud Private deployment on AWS or Azure, we provision a VPC or VPN for your use. You can then have any number of SearchStax-hosted Apache Solr deployments inside of that Private Environment.

Once a SearchStax Cloud Private Environment has been provisioned, you can peer the VPC/VPN to the AWS or Azure VPC/VPN that houses your application infrastructure. This peering operation will create a single, extended, private network consisting of both your application infrastructure and your search deployments.

Plan Best Practices

We recommend these best practices when selecting your infrastructure provider and deployment.

Data Storage Needs

How many documents will you be loading into your Solr indexes? Select a plan that includes enough dedicated storage to meet your application's needs. If you anticipate very large storage requirements, talk with us about a custom plan.

Uptime

For mission-critical applications a Basic deployment will not meet your needs. Choose an appropriate High-Availability plan with its three redundant nodes and its three-node Zookeeper ensemble. If one server fails, the other two keep the system in service with no downtime.

Location

It is a best practice to run your application tier as close as possible to your users. SearchStax offers cloud hosting centers around the world.
