A Master of All = A Master of None

“I think the biggest mistake organizations make when planning a digital transformation is hiring a one-stop shop and assuming that they have all of the skills that are required to design, execute, and support something that involves multiple enterprise platforms,” shared Jason. “While it is tempting to work with a single shop that promises to do everything, and it’s easier from a procurement standpoint, what brands often discover is that when you’re a Jack of all trades, you’re a master of none (or only one). So, one aspect of the delivery might be really strong and on point, but a lot of other critical aspects of the delivery could be considered an afterthought of that agency. Ultimately, the result can be really disappointing and might even cost you your job.”

Commitment to Partnerships is Key

As for what organizations can do instead, Jason said, “The recommended approach is to find best-in-breed agencies that have a commitment to working in partnership to make your digital transformation a reality. You can have one agency be the lead agency, that being the one you have the procurement relationship with, and then you can have a sub-agency who goes through your lead agency of record.”
