Disconnect/timeout while creating a Sitecore collection?
Users who connect their Sitecore project to SearchStax Solr Cloud usually create about a dozen Solr collections to handle the various Sirecore features. They create these collections directly in the Solr Dashboard.
Sometimes Solr disconnects while creating a new collection. (The problem is not limited to Sitecore projects, but it often comes up in that context.) If this happens, you might have a faulty Solr configuration.
In the SearchStax Cloud Manager, select the deployment and click on the Solr HTTP Endpoint link. Open the Logging node. Look for a message like this:
Error CREATEing SolrCore 'sitecore_master_index_shard1_replica_n1': Unable to create core [sitecore_master_index_shard1_replica_n1] Caused by: Can't find resource 'solrconfig.xml' in classpath or '/configs/sitecore'
This often means that the sitecore configuration has an improper folder structure. Open the Solr Dashboard and navigate to Cloud > Tree > Configs. Compare the sitecore config folders with this image:
Even when the folder structure is correct, other configuration errors can make Solr disconnect. Look for candidates among the logged errors.
