Frequently Asked Questions - SearchStax

The SearchStax® Frequently Asked Questions page includes the following approved question and answer about our Apache Solr Cloud services.

Can I change the size of my Solr cluster?

AWS and Azure Clusters only!

The following remarks apply to dedicated clusters on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

SearchStax gives you the ability to add servers to your initial deployment during peak times of the year, and to retire them again during the off-season. From the SearchStax dashboard for your deployment, select the Options Menu and click Add nodes.

SearchStax Add Nodes

Then use the quantity button control to adjust the size of your deployment up or down.

SearchStax Add Nodes

It usually takes only a few minutes for the changes to take effect, depending on the number of nodes and the size of your index.

Adding Replicas!

If you add servers to your deployment, SearchStax does not automatically adjust the number of replicas. That adjustment is up to you. See the writeup on AddReplica in the Help Center.

Removing Replicas!

If you remove a server from your deployment, the replica on that node is automatically deleted. However, a ghostly version of the replica may remain visible on the Solr Dashboard. To clean up the replica name, see the writeup on How can I remove an orphaned replica? in the Help Center.
